4Not perfect, but still awesome
By Andrew H. Smith
With cable and satellite bills rising, most people - including myself - don't want to shell out X dollars per month just to watch five shows on a regular basis. Although there are numerous choices out there, the two most popular are Apple TV and Roku. Although I have an iPhone and an iPad, in addition to a MacBook, I didn't want to pay $100 for something that I had no experience with (streaming at-home devices). Plus, Wal-Mart had the Roku HD on sale for $50, and CNET had given the HD - and it's twin, the LT - an Editor's Choice Award, so I took the plunge. Here's my review after almost 2 months of using the box on a regular basis. Before I begin, though, a word of warning: no, you will not get HuluPlus or Netflix free just because you paid for the Roku box. I seriously doubt anyone thought this was the case, but just in case I'm wrong you still have to pay for those subscriptions if you want to use those channels. Also, you still have to have a cable subscription that includes HBO to access HBO Go - and just because your cable or satellite provider allows you to watch the HBO Go app on your mobile device doesn't mean they'll allow you to access HBO Go on the Roku. Through DirectTV, I can watch HBO Go on my aforementioned mobile devices, but (as of this writing) I can't watch HBO Go on the Roku. I maintain this is more the fault of HBO than Roku or the providers (this fact apparently holds true on the Apple TV as well), but regardless this is something you need to remember if HBO Go is a make-or-break factor in whether to buy one of these devices.Setup is easy. You plug in an HDMI cable (or a component cable, if you have a non-HDMI TV; another advantage all the Rokus have over the Apple TV), plug in the power supply, and you begin setup. All you have to do is create an account on Roku.com and enter your credit card info (don't worry, you're not going to have to buy most of the channels or shows, you just have to have your info stored in case you buy one of the paid channels or you download something off of Amazon OnDemand. I personally didn't find it a big deal, but I can understand why people would be annoyed by this). Once you're done with the initial setup (which takes about 10 minutes, give or take), the box will automatically download several channels for you: Amazon OnDemand, Crackle, Netflix, HuluPlus, and Pandora. Also, on the Roku HD remote - in contrast to the LT - there are three shortcut buttons for Netflix, Crackle, and Pandora, which is very nice to have.Content: you go into the Channel Store (on the home screen) and from there download any channel you want that's available. There are dozens upon dozens of channels, ranging from popular ones to obscure. You can get sports, tech, news, obviously movies and TV, and many more channels. Plus, Roku is good about updating new channels on a regular basis (although right now most of the added channels are religious stations). Unfortunately, the Roku HD doesn't have a simple search function, so you're going to have to scroll through these channels manually. Right now, while the number of channels is comparatively small, it's more of an annoyance than a real problem, but as more channels get added in the future, Roku's going to have to add a search function if they want to keep people buying. Once again, remember that some channels do require a monthly subscription or require you to pay to download the channel, so look before you leap. However, the variety is excellent; there's going to be something for everyone. Plus, unlike with cable, if you don't like a channel, you can delete it (although for monthly paid services remember to call them and tell them to cancel your subscription).Quality of picture: as mentioned everywhere, the maximum picture the Roku HD will broadcast in is 720P/1080i. In other words, it's HD, but not full HD. Right now, while virtually all TV shows are still broadcast in 720P, that's not a big deal - even on larger TVs - and if you have a TV under 42 inches you're probably not going to notice a great difference in picture quality between 720P and 1080P anyway, but for recent Amazon OnDemand movies or with a larger TV (i.e. 50 inches) you might want to shell out for the Roku 2 XS (which is around $100) to take full advantage of your TV's picture quality. However, I have to say the picture quality on the box is excellent. I have a PS3 with Hulu Plus as well, and honestly the picture on the Roku HD is much better: much crisper, slightly less "digital-looking", and just plain better (for the record, I have a 32" LED from LG).Internet: because the Roku HD is single-bandwith, and because you just plain need a lot of proverbial horsepower to get the most out of streaming digital video, you're going to need a fairly fast internet connection. I would argue that if you're download speed is 1.5 MBPS, for instance, you're going to have a hard time watching stuff on the Roku HD. I have 30 MBPS, so for me streaming is easy EXCEPT when I want to get on my computer. Then audio problems sometimes arise. It's more pronounced on some channels than others; Netflix never has a problem, but Hulu can become unwatchable at times because the sound quality deteriorates so badly. This is apparently a problem on most Roku devices, so be forewarned. Honestly, it doesn't happen that often, and as of late when it does happen, it's usually only for a few seconds while the video buffers, and then it's fine, so don't worry this isn't a deal-breaker.Other observations/complaints: not every channel you could want is on here. YouTube, Vudu, and Twitter are just some of the channels found on other devices that are not present (as of this review) on any of the Roku boxes. In terms of Facebook, Roku has a channel for your Facebook picture/movie uploads, but it's literally only that; there's no full Facebook integration. A much ballyhooed channel is Plex. Plex allows you to stream movies, videos, and photos off your computer onto your TV. For example, I use iTunes for my music, and what Plex lets me do is stream the music off of iTunes onto my TV. The biggest problem with Plex is you have to have your computer up and running the Plex app in order to do all this. Kind of annoying. So how much do you save? My mom got one of these as well and dumped DirectTV, for which she was paying around $80/month. After factoring in the monthly cost of a Netflix and Hulu subscription (she hasn't downloaded anything off of Amazon, and she doesn't have any of the other subscription channels), she's saving about $60/month. That's a great deal of money. More importantly, she says she's watching her TV more now than she was with satellite. Roku's not perfect - and certainly not being able to watch live TV (for most things) has its disadvantages - but if you need a cheap way to reduce your cable bill while still enjoying your favorite shows, the Roku HD is the best value around.

5Easy to connect and works great.
By L. Allen
Was looking for a wireless streaming player for my Netflix and Amazon Instant Video accounts. This is for the bedroom on my 37" 720p LCD, so I didn't need to spend the extra $$ on the Roku 1080p capable players. In reality, you aren't likely going to get true 1080p video from these streaming players anyway. At any rate, this Roku HD player seemed to fill my need and it definitely does. Easy to link to your existing streaming accounts and Crackle is a free channel with movies and TV episodes, although you do have commercials. Doesn't come with a HDMI cable, but I had a spare on hand. One note on the remote pictured, it's not the one included. The remote that came with this player has the added, dedicated buttons for Netflix, Pandora and Crackle. Other than those additions it's the same as what is pictured. Highly recommended for those who just want a streaming player for under $60, since this is all it does.

5Roku HD: Simple. It Just Works!
By Elizabeth
VIDEO:The Roku HD is a great little wireless-only player. Despite its name, the Roku HD does not support HD video at 1080p. It supports 720p.The Roku HD is the replacement for the Roku LT per Roku. Currently the Roku website as of this writing is listing both the Roku LT and the Roku HD, with both feature sets being identical. The Roku LT is sold out on Roku's website. Update July 11 2012: It is currently in stock again on Roku's website as of this writing. It supports 802.11n WiFi (b/g/n compatible). It has the following video outputs, identical to the Roku LT: 480i over composite video, 480p over HDMI, and 720p over HDMI. Like the Roku LT, it will do the following video modes: 720p HD, 16:9 anamorphic, and 4:3 standard. It will not do 1080p.--An HDMI cable is not included, but the composite video cable is.NO GAME MODE:The Roku HD is not capable of playing Angry Birds, Pac Man, or similar games. The Roku HD does not include bluetooth capability, which is necessary to play these games. The Roku players that are able to play Angry Birds/Pac Man as of this writing are Roku 2 XD and Roku 2 XS and the previous, older Roku 2 HD. Thus this Roku does not include the Roku Game Remote. Current price for that remote is around $35. The Roku 2 XS (model subject to change via Roku's website) comes with the Game Remote as of this writing, or you can purchase it in a package with a Micro SD card or separately.REMOTE:I love the Roku HD's simple remote -- it is the one with the Netflix, Pandora and Crackle buttons, although it cannot go frame-by-frame in slow motion like a DVR remote. It is still a great design. It is the same remote that I got with my Roku LT and the one supplied with the Roku 2 XD. Subtitles are available for Netflix on the Roku HD, if subtitles are available for that movie/show.STREAMING:Streaming is very fast with the wireless HD model.WHAT'S IN THE BOX: * Standard Roku infrared remote control * 2 x AAA batteries * A/V cable (mini-jack to left/right/composite video RCA) * A/C Power adapter * Getting Started guide * 30-day money back guarantee * 90-day hardware warrantyWHAT YOU WILL NEED: * HDMI cable -- if you choose to hook up your TV with HDMI to view in 720p instead of the included A/V cable * Wireless router (N router is best since this Roku is N compatible) * High speed internet connection -- Roku recommends a 1.5 Mbps download speed for standard definition; live events like baseball need 3 Mbps; and just FYI, the Roku-recommended 5 Mbps HD download speed doesn't apply to the Roku HD, according to a conversation I had with a Roku representative since the Roku HD player doesn't do 1080p. * Access to the internet to configure your Roku (to link the Roku player to your Roku account)WHO SHOULD GET IT: * If you have never had a Roku player before, this is a great one to start with. * If you have the Roku LT and like it, this one is for you. It is identical except in color. * If you have other Roku players and want to expand around the house, this is a good one. Inexpensive, yet has a good feature set. * If you have an area in your house where you could use a wireless Roku, and you don't need to pay extra for ethernet, this is a great choice. * If you do not want to play games on a Roku, this would be a good option.SET-UP:Set-up is simple and quick, although channel addition can be slightly clunky, in that the order you add the channels is the order in which they will display. As far as Roku content, Hulu Plus is offered, but Hulu is not. However, it is great for access to Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, and there are several great free movie channels to choose from like Crackle, although I would like to see more free movie channels. Content is always expanding on the Roku.PHONE SUPPORT:Roku phone support only covers 90 days per their warranty. After 90 days you have email or chat support only. Tech support has been cheerful and pleasant but spotty. They do not always provide the correct solution to the problem. If you want additional phone support, you can get Roku Care Per-Incident or an Extended Warranty which provides as of this writing an additional two years of phone support.CONCLUSION:The Roku HD is a great value in the Roku line and I highly recommend it, as long as you don't want to play games.Another great value, with an identical feature set if you are able to find it at a good price, is the Roku LT Streaming Player. Roku was selling them on their website at a cheaper price point but they sold out.~~>> "I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in his cab." <<

5Enjoy the other half of the movie
By Mark T. Newkirk
I bought this component to take advantage of all the features of my Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR6 TV and Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray Player. The integration into my system was as easy as possible with the HDMI cables. One HDMI from the Blu-ray player and one from the Comcast Hi-Def cable box into the A/V receiver. One more HDMI from the A/V receiver to the TV. Connect the 7.1 speakers and your done. The sound field set up was brain-dead simple with the included microphone. The Theatre Sych feature worked perfectly the first time. Put a disk in the player and hit the play button, the TV turns on and selects the correct input and starts playing your movie. I added a Sony TDM-IP1 Digital Media Port iPod Dock for my iPod. Just plug it into the digital media port on the back of the A/V receiver and you're ready to listen to your favorite iTunes playlist. (Warning: the Sony TDM-IP1 Digital Media Port iPod Dock is not compatible with all iPods - check to make sure your iPod is compatible.)The best part was, obviously, the sound. Without the 7.1 surround, you're missing half of the movie. Also, the music from the iPod takes on a whole new dimension with the A/V receiver's selectable sound fields (Concert Hall, Jazz Club, etc.). I'm sure there are audio purists who would look down their nose at it, but I don't have unlimited funds to put into my A/V system. The price, ease of connection, and feature integration make it perfect for my home theater needs. The upscaling feature of the A/V receiver compensates for the lack of a 1080p signal on regular (Non-HiDef) cable. Not as good as a true 1080p signal, but watchable.Overall, I'm very pleased with Sony's latest implementation of Digital Home Theater/Entertainment. The picture and sound are state-of-the-art and I can still afford to pay my daughter's college tuition.

5Produces great sound
By Rachel Roberts
I was willing to spend as much as three times what I spent on this receiver but based on my previous experience with Sony ES products plus online reviews, I decided to go with this system.I particularly like the GUI interface for setting things up. On my system, the sound was slightly muffled until I switched it from 8 ohms to 4 ohms in the setup. (And I mean slightly -- my roommate didn't notice a difference.)The reason for this purchase is that I wanted a receiver that supported all the latest sound codecs and had HDMI ports and my 10-year-old Sony ES receiver didn't have either. I'm doing a big Blu-ray upgrade of my home theatre!

4Good, solid, feature-packed receiver
By L. Campo
Is it just me or are all home theater receivers just too feature-packed? I'm relatively tech savy, but this thing is humbling. More ways to set this thing up than any non-professional would ever need. The result is that it is too complicated for my wife and 6 year old daughter to use without the Logitech universal remote which I have pre-programmed by activity. While it hurts my ego to admit it, I think I'm probably using less than 50% of its true capabilities as well. I have the following running through it: Cable HD/DVR (connected via HDMI), XBOX 360 (via HD component), PS3 (via HDMI), old Toshiba CD changer (via toslink),a 50 inch 1080p Panasonic Viera plasma tv and a decent set of Polk speakers. My favorite activity is, believe it or not, playing Pandora internet radio over the PS3. Both movies and music sound great.Overall very pleased with its performance after several months of daily use in my main home theater set up. It does get hot in the AV cabinet, so I make sure to leave the door open when in use -- especially if playing with the XBOX 360, which used to sit just below the Sony receiver; I had to move it a few shelves down and cut more space out of the back to ensure better air flow. No image problems compared to plugging directly from the cable HD box to the TV, but then again I don't really see much improvement in the upscaling performance over letting the TV handle this operation.

5Outstanding customer service!
By gambler
My initial try to put these on was not very successful. I used all three and still ended up with a few bubbles. I didnt contact the company, since I figured it was my error. I posted a review on Amazon and mentioned my difficulty, and less than 24 hours later I received an email from Armor Tech telling me they wanted me to be completely satisfied and were shipping me out a new set. They shipped them the next day on Saturday. Now THAT's customer service!

5Tech armor iPhone 5
By JB
Great screen protector. After a day or two the residual film wore off now I can't even tell a screen protector is on my iPhone. A tip on installation, I put the tech armor on my phone underneath my stove hood vent to have dust drawn up, not one speck of dust got under my screen protector. Did this for both my wife's and my iPhone.

5Tech Armor is so good its like nothing is there!!!
By Terry
This was my first time trying tech armor on a phone, and as such i was a little worried. What if it didn't go on right? What if it doesn't have the right cut outs for the iPhone 5? I had no need to worry! I received my order on the Monday after the iPhone 5 came out and promptly set about putting it on. It was very easy, there was no need to spray the screen protector and your fingers like some products i can think of *cough* invisible shield *cough* and with the provided squeegee i was able to line it up in get it perfectly in-line on my phone in one go. I have had it on there for four days now and it looks great. I wouldn't know it was there at all but for the camera cutout. Look no further when searching for screen protectors for your new iPhone 5, this is the one you should be buying!!!Oh yeah and it comes with 3 screen protectors if anything should ever happen to the first one (not likely).

5Can't do better for the money !
By Kathe Cote
Very clean sound. Amazing price. I could never justify spending thousands on a reciever for a difference only a dog can hear. Easy to set up as long as you have no issues with any of your other components. Compatability issues are usually due to defective or outdated cable box. Just make sure your cable box has fairly new technology. Paid $300 at costco online and worth every penney.

2Lousy UI and Poor CS
By scrognoid
Yeah, sure. If you want a complicated piece of electronics with bad documentation, a bad user interface and bad customer support, but at a good price point, this one is for you. What I ended up with is a "state-of-the-art" 5.1 home theater system with which I can't understand the dialog in a movie. Yes, I know, movie sound tracks do that nowadays. But what good is all the complication in this box if not to fix things like that. There might be a way, but equipped with Pioneer's manual, email and phone support and a career in underwater acoustics research (I'm not a Luddite), I can't figure it out.The manual is awful, like most manuals these days. It tells you the names of switches but not what they do or how they interact. For example, dynamic range appears to be controlled by Midnight/Loudness and Dynamic Range Control. The manual, printed in GRAY ink and micro-font and readable only with a magnifier in full sun, is no help deciding how to use which switch. Email support's response to the question was, I swear, read the manual. Oh, or call this number. I called that number once. Twenty minutes on hold just to get the bum's rush. There are two user interfaces for no good reason. Some controls are on-screen, some are front panel. There are dozens of controls so you have to take the manual outside in full sun with your magnifier to remember which controls are where.I know this kind of customer treatment is business as usual for most consumer electronics nowadays. But it will never get better if we keep giving 5 star ratings for tons of features we can't use.

5A Workhorse - Handles Everything Beautifully
By Father Of Two
I bought this receiver to manage a pair of Definitive BP6 tower speakers and a Definitive 8040 center channel speaker, as well as Blu-Ray, Roku, and TV inputs. I have had it for over a year. Advantages I have found:- Easy to program and configure- Manages transitions between devices seamlessly- Routes and delivers unparalleled sound and video qualityWhen we set up a second TV in the basement (mainly for Xbox and DVD), and I bought another VSX-40 for that setup. Our main VSX-40 has been put to the test with heavy use and multiple device transitions each time we use it. It has delivered flawless performance - I could not be happier with it.

5After initial release problems, which have been resolved, this is hands-down the best WiFi access point on the market.
By Craig M. Hamm
Well, as mentioned in another review, the firmware in the initial shipment of these (3.0.0.3.72) is broken. Not buggy, not unstable, but broken. You CANNOT connect to the Internet with the factory firmware, at least in the initial release. I purchased one, returned it in exchange for another one, and the second one had the exact same problem. As discussed on this here: [...]You must manually enter a URL [...] then change to a language other than English, then update the firmware. (The current version from the ASUS website is 3.0.0.3.90 as of 1/13/2012) Of course, that means you need to download the firmware first, since you can't connect to the Internet with the factory firmware. And of course, a router is required for most people to access the Internet, so... well, you can see where I'm going with this. After the firmware update, things were much better. I had the Internet connection set up in a few minutes, and the speed was unbelievable. Certainly the fastest consumer wireless on the market right now. It has nice features, like 6 different SSIDs for guest networks (3 for each band.) You can choose whether or not to give those networks access to your primary network, and since you can set up multiple SSIDs, you can have different settings for each. It also has parental controls, good QoS, a VPN server and some other nice features. It supports Zoneedit for dynamic DNS, so I was pretty happy about that. (Neither the Cisco or the Linksys models I have tried do.)One feature that's present in the Linksys E4200, but not on this router, is an SSL web GUI. I work in IT, and it bothers me administering my firewall over plaintext HTTP. Probably not that big a deal to home users, but I don't think it's that difficult to implement an HTTPS server for the admin GUI. It also makes this unit completely unsuited for deployment in a business environment, where security is paramount. I'm hopeful that it'll be in a future firmware update. I could probably use this router for a lot of small-business clients. As far as wireless range goes, this blows away both the Cisco E4200v1 and the Netgear WNDR3800, both of which I tested in the same placement as this one. I get full signal in all corners of my house, which isn't too big, but both the Netgear and Cisco routers got medium signal in the corners of my house. I have 5 wireless devices and 6 wired devices, and speed thus far has not been a problem. I stream video without drops and file transfers are quick. No complaints.I really wish ASUS hadn't made the error of shipping this with broken firmware. They will undoubtedly have a return rate nearing 100% until they get the new firmware on shipping units. Had it not been for this, I would easily give this product 5 stars. If it had HTTPS on the GUI, I'd say it's a perfect device.UPDATE 10/12/2012So they fixed the firmware issue within a couple weeks of release. Now, they've released a firmware upgrade that adds HTTPS functionality. I'm upgrading my review to five stars!UPDATE 11/16/2012I changed the title of the review, because, other than price, there is no longer any reason not to buy this product. It is the best wireless access point on the market, save for the new ASUS RT-AC66U, which is just an updated version of this product. (New radio, supports a new standard that nobody uses yet.) I don't use it as a router, so I can't qualify those features, but as far as range, features and consistent connectivity, you can't beat this product at any price.

5Great performance, solid build quality, loaded with latest features and IPv6 support
By Eurodude in NJ
Edit 2 (2012-02-25). Here is an update now that I have owned it a while (5 1/2 weeks):1. FYI Asus is releasing firmware version 102 on Monday (those who have been able to get a hold of that version in the meantime said it works great and has resolved the few issues that remained, which affected some users, depending on which advanced features they needed). They have been very quick, compared to other networking companies especially, to release new firmware after getting bug reports and working on the fixes ([...]).2. As an update, my RT-N66U has been up (without a reboot) and running stably since I first configured it 5 1/2 weeks ago. (It does get rebooted to load the new firmware of course, just like a Windows PC needs a reboot after installing updates).3. No wifi disconnects to date!4. Smallnetbuilder.com has posted test results and it is, as of now (February 25 2012), their top performing router in terms of wireless (wifi) performance overall. It performed great in the far locations that no other N900 router could get a signal. It beats my prior router (E4200 v1) handily in overall wifi, with a nice boost in the far locations as noted by Tim as well.Original (January) Review, including an associated edit about the power button):Edit to add a tip - For anyone who thinks their unit is DOA, be sure to turn the tiny power button on the back on. It is the same color as the router and very small, so it is easy to miss.I noticed it when attaching the antennae, but I can see how people could easily miss it.Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones. I had no issues updating the firmware to the latest version from the version that shipped with the router, with it set to 'English'.I used a PC running Windows 7 32-bit and Firefox 8.0.1. I hooked it up to my cable modem and desktop PC and rebooted the equipment as needed. I then went into the configuration GUI, configured my wifi (2.4 and 5 GHz) and then simply clicked on the 'update firmware' button - it downloaded the firmware and updated it. The one caveat is that initially a progress bar appeared. Toward the end of the process the web config screen went blank and stayed that way, so I was not sure if it had finished or not. I opened a new window and tried surfing the internet and it worked fine. To be safe, I left the other window open for a while (the one I had used to update the firmware).PROS:- Great wifi performance relative to competition (signal strength and throughput) on BOTH bands (on par with my Amped Wireless R10000 and actually beat my Linksys E4200 v1).- Fast CPU and lots of RAM to handle multiple connections and heavy loads- Seems stable so far (only had it hooked up about 20 hours so far so time will tell)- Native IPv6 support- Dual band concurrent wifi- 450 Mbps max (under ideal conditions) on both bands- 2 USB ports for a host of extra sharing and streaming connectivity- Solid build quality (the weight of this tells you there is a lot under the hood and the ports are not flimsy)- Gigabit WAN and LAN ports- Beam forming tech. seems to really work.- Up to 6 Guest networks- Upgradable antennaeBig bonus - It also seems to have resolved an issue with Netflix cover art not loading for some titles that was an issue when using my Amped (perhaps the Amped had one setting affecting it or something got cached).CON:- WPS is enabled by default. Make sure to turn it off to protect yourself from the WPS exploit (at this time - as of Jan 19 2012 - this issue affects any router with WPS enabled)Minor things that could be improved (not sure I would call them cons so I listed them separately):- Web UI says 'enabled' for guest wifi (should say 'enable'), so I thought they might be on by default. Then when I thought I disabled it (selected 'off'), it seemed to keep broadcasting (as per Windows). I went back into the config screen and was able to disable it the second time. Will have to see if I can recreate this.- Firmware update window goes blank at the end of the upgrade (would prefer to have it reboot back into the config GUI one can be sure it has complete updating).I will update this review (if I get a chance) after running it longer to note the stability. So far I have not noticed any wireless disconnects. It runs warmer than my Amped R10000 (which runs cool) but is not hot. It is doing more work, which explains it.It is not cheap but then again neither is the competition. The exception is the Linksys E4200 v1 'manufacturer refurbished' model with a manufacturer warranty, free shipping and a return period. That unit is only $99.xx with free shipping directly from Cisco. I bought a new one when it came out and was not impressed with its long range performance, especially given some of the great reviews it got.The competition (aside from the RT-N66U so far in my limited experience with other units and going by reviews) is not really any better though (tried the Zyxel NBG5715 with initial firmware at the time). For $100 the E4200 v1 is not a bad router for those with lesser needs (in terms of range) and a smaller budget. The Amped R10000 is also affordable and nice too (great wifi range and very respectable wireless throughput - it beat my E4200 v1 on 2.4 GHz), depending on your needs (i.e. it has no gigabit, no IPv6 [yet], no USB and no 5 GHz).All in all I am very impressed with the Asus.

4Solid router, AWESOME range, READ FOR ENGLISH FIRMWARE CONFIG HELP!
By Bryan Lynch
I got my shiny new RT-N66U today from Amazon.I do networking for a living and figured even though I'd seen reports of the shipping factory firmware being broken in English mode, it would be no problem.WHAT A PAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Asus!!!!The short and sweet version of how to get your router up and running with 3.0.0.3.72:*Download 3.0.0.3.90 firmware from [...]*Extract RT-N66U_3.0.0.3_90.trx to somewhere on your computer*Log in to 192.168.1.1 (User:admin Pass:admin)*Complete the initial setup wizard using any info you want. Just GET THROUGH IT. It will display a broken page at the end.*Enter 192.168.1.1 in your web browser*Click on "Administration" on the left*Click on "Firmware Upgrade" on the top tab*Switch the language box in the top-right-hand corner from "English" to something else. I used French.*Upload RT-N66U_3.0.0.3_90.trx***WAIT FOR IT TO FINISH****When it's complete, choose "English" again from the language drop-down.*Go back to 192.168.1.1 and complete your initial router configuration. The good news is that after I got 3.0.0.3.90 on the router all seems to be running smoothly.I was replacing an ASUS RT-N56U and I have found so far:*SIGNIFICANTLY better range on both 2.4 and 5ghz bands (Maybe 3-6db increase at an 80ft distance)I'm hoping that when I get a wireless adapter that supports 450Mbps that I'll be able to see the huge difference.I like the way it physically looks (Like some type of network Samurai device) and I love that I can swap out the antennas as I see fit. It looks pretty bad-ass actually. It's been running smooth for a day now.The specs on this thing are awesome. I just can't believe that Asus would let it ship out with severely broken English firmware. Oh well that's what I get for buying a product the day it's released lol.The bottom line is that if you're into this kind of technology, the initial configuration pain shouldn't be a huge deterrent to you. Third-party Broadcom firmware support will be abundant for this router soon. There are already a few releases out there for you to try like TomatoUSB.The 2.4ghz range increase was noticeable for me. 5ghz was also increased, but still has a smaller range footprint than the 2.4ghz band.If you are not comfortable with this kind of work, maybe wait a few months for Asus to ship some units out with the firmware upgraded for you.I would have given this router 5 stars if it wasn't for the shipping firmware bug. Asus, you get 4 stars for making me work.Update to come in a few weeks of operation.Update 1/19/12: Just using the built-in wifi radio on my Samsung Galaxy S2, I was able to use my router nearly a block away from my house on 2.4ghz. The router is near a window and this was almost line-of-sight.I plan on playing with the DLNA features in the next day or two. I'll post how that goes.So far so good! Love it!Update 1/23/12: I've been busy the last few days but I wanted to check in and say that this router has been running 100% rock solid and the wifi range increase has been DRAMATIC for me. I love the looks and function of this unit and plan on recommending it to any friend who asks.Pick one up, you'll love it.

4Great Receiver but one Important thing to be aware of...
By Vilachil
I know just enough about Audio to be dangerous but I'm not a true audiophile (or whatever they're called). So I don't know how an average person would figure this out when it took me an hour and a half on the phone with Sony support before THEY figured it out.Now this is my second Sony receiver and I purchased this one specifically to go along with my brand new Sony BDP-S360 Blu Ray player. I used brand new HDMI category 2 cables into the receiver and then out to my Sony HDTV. This is suppossed to be the BEST way to get true no-loss sound decoding and picture. Well I was shocked when my receiver was NOT decoding DTS audio. All Dolby Digital tracks were playing in perfect 5.1 surround sound...the DTS tracks played back in Linear PCM stereo. So after I read the manuals, updated the firmware and set everything right then trying a few DVDs and Blu Ray discs I contacted Sony Support via email. Several exchanges later they asked me to call in to better troubleshoot my issue. First I talked to the blu ray guy (since I wasn't sure which device was causing the issue) and after resetting the player and checking all the setting I was transfered to the Audio department. Once again we reset the machine to factory setting, checked all the set ups and still nothing changed (Did I mention that I had to unhook and reconnect several cables and I even had an optical cable running to my old Sony Reciever?). Then 1 1/2 hours into the phone call he asked if I was getting audio through the TV speakers which I was and he said "oh its set to TV + Amp". So we changed that setting to just "Amp" and bingo...DTS surround sound!! I said "but that's the factory default setting". He told me where the info was in the manual but I checked an NOWHERE in the manual does it say that when using the receiver as a passthrough via HDMI inorder to decode a DTS signal the receiver must be set to "Amp" only and not the default setting of "TV + Amp". What the...??So now the receiver works great even decoding the new DTS-HD Master Audio off my "Watchmen" Blu Ray disc. But be warned that if you use the HDMI inputs to decode your surround sound be sure to change the system to "Amp" instead of the default "TV + Amp" unless you enjoy stereo sound from your suround sound system. This may be the case for other Sony receivers so be aware when buying that factory default setting may not allow for optimum performance and the Sony guys might not be aware of this little fact if you call them.

3Nice but no upconversion...
By Pinballfan
Don't be fooled by the manual or by descriptions on other AV retailer websites... This model does NOT include analog->digital upconversion. If you have a mixture of new and older devices this will not allow you to use a single HDMI cable to your display. It provides input switching, but if you provide a composite or component video input, then you must use the corresponding output to view that source. Only HDMI inputs are routed to the HDMI output. The manual suggests that you do not need to connect all of the outputs. In a sense I suppose that is true, but but only if you don't connect to all of the various types of inputs! As long as you understand the specs, this seems like a nice receiver.

4Great sound but you need to make changes if you have a PS3
By Michael J. Scott
I set up my new receiver yesterday, and it took over an hour, given Sony's propensity for screw-in type speaker connections. The first surprise was not being able to control the PS3 and my Satellite DVR with the remote's control buttons. I had to use their HDMI locations, i.e. HDMI 4 for the Satellite and HDMI 3 for the PS3. Keep in mind that the BEST sound is reproduced through the HDMI 3 location, so ignore the picture in the manual that has you putting your BD at HDMI 1. If you read the manual fine print you will see that they tell you to use HDMI 3 connection for the best sound reproduction. It is a given that Sony's product manuals are written by persons from other planets so you just have to stumble through when it comes to issues such as the PS3 BD Player putting out EVERYTHING in Linear PCM, including THX, DTS HD and etc. I did everything I could think of to change that. I confirmed the HDMI control was set to ON in both the 800 and the PS3, I confirmed that the AUTOMATIC sound control was set in the PS3 and still no DTS-HD being produced on TAKEN, a movie with that attribute. So, I called SONY. The first person I spoke with was clueless, and had little mastery of the English language. He said I should turn off my receiver for an hour and do the setup all over again. Foolishly I did that. Nothing changed. The PS3 Blu Ray component was still putting out Linear PCM exclusively.I called Sony again and spoke to Manuel, who was anything but clueless. He told me to go into my PS3 Video settings and click on BD/DVD AUDIO OUTPUT. Lo and behold it was set to Linear PCM. I clicked on the only other option, BITSTREAM, and clicked OK. I then put TAKEN (my test BRDVD) into the player and voila everything worked. The encoded DTS-HD was now being sent to my receiver and reproducing amazing sound, and when I say amazing I mean every syllable. I presently have a 5.1 system setup but tomorrow I am going to configure for 7.1. It is unfortunate that this unit will only run ONE sub-woofer. I like to use two, but I will live with it.So, I will figure out how to control my systems using the proprietary (BD-SAT) buttons on the remote, but for right now, everything is working fine, thanks to Manuel from Sony support. In conclusion I recommend this product not necessarily for its ease of use but for its ability to reproduce amazing sound at a reasonable price once you get it setup. The fifth star was deducted because of the poorly written manual and the first Sony [clueless] technician.

5As of Now!
By Khameleon59
I just bought this tablet today (03 February 2013). For starters the deep red color is fantastic. I am pleased with the easy to use applications. It runs pretty fast. I upgraded to the 32GB memory. I am sure this information will not help anyone. However the main purpose for this purchase was to have a decent priced tablet that I can use for school. I will follow up further information by the end of the month.Ok ladies and gentlemen, it is now 11Feb2013 and I have pretty much had this beautifully awesome device close to 2 weeks now. As previously stated I have upgraded the memory card to a 32GB card. I am attending college and majoring in networking. I have downloaded all of my textboks to my device, a couple of hundred songs, alot of pictures, plus technical videos were downloaded to it. As of right now I have not witnessed any lack in performance while running multiple applications. Downloading and uploading speeds are fast. Overall I am really impressed. I believe it should have had a built in flash for the camera. But other than that I am very satisfied with my purchase. I will finalize my review by the end of the month.

5Absolutely love, love, love this!!!

I ordered this last night and received it this morning at 10 am. I am over the top ecstatic with this purchase!! I could actually jump through this screen and shout "BUY ME" to everyone out there. I am a huge Samsung fan anyways, but this little guy takes the cake! Besides for the awesome color it came in and the lovely cover that came with it, I must say it does everything it says it will do and then some. While I realize Ive had it a whole hour and fifteen minutes, I'm in love! It runs at lightening speed, plays and streams video & TV, music player wonderful and the camera amazing. Quality of the camera is not to bad! (well write more later when I use it more) I'm going to get a larger SD card for more room obviously, but for right now: totally happy! Even though it's only 7" screen, I really like it. It will fit well and not be bulky in my purse or my backpack for college. I know I'm rambling, but I'm just so excited with this purchase. Thank you Amazon!!

4Love the tablet, but the case isn't IR-friendly
By Melissa
I purchased this tablet and a 32GB microSD card from Amazon and both arrived next day with Prime shipping. I've been an iPhone and iPad user for a few years now, but decided I wanted to go with a smaller tablet. The Galaxy Tab 2 definitely had a much better price point than the iPad Mini, so I decided to give the Android platform a try. The interface has been fairly intuitive even for someone like me coming from a strong iOS background. The one disappointment (for lack of a better term) that I've had thus far is that the case covers the IR (infrared) port. This fact results in the Peel Smart Remote app not working to control my entertainment equipment. If I remove the tablet from the cover, it works great! It was a snap to connect with my Sharp Aquos TV, Yahama sound bar, and DirecTV HD DVR. I was then able to use the remote control app to switch the TV to other channels & shows using the recommended shows functionality of the app. I was also able to successfully power all of the devices on and off with the app. It's really unfortunate that this case is designed by Samsung specifically for this tablet only to have it block a major feature like that.Other than that, the tablet has been great! I love the smaller size and weight compared to the iPad. The Galaxy Tab 2 came preloaded with the Kindle app, so I've been able to download several of my Kindle books to it.
