5I'm surprised by some of the reviews
By Nobody
I don't think the cover seems cheaply made, nor have I had any trouble with the Fire falling over (I've used the stand only in the landscape orientation). I like the sleep/wake function built into the cover, the leather looks good, it adds very little weight to the Fire, there's no chemical smell, and the fit is snug without resorting to the use of corner straps or having to slip the Fire into a holder that covers the bezel. I like the cover so much I'm thinking of buying a second one in another color.

4Fantastic Case With A Few Flaws
By Rick Mallory Jr.
So I've had over a week now to spend some time with both my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and this particular leather case and I have to say, I honestly do not understand why it received so many negative reviews. However, that's not to say that this case doesn't have some issues (some more obvious than others).Durability (5/5): You know, part of me wanted to make a video review showing me hurling this case straight down onto pavement. Could I do it? Sure! Do I think the Kindle would hold up if it were inside the case while I conducted this experiment? Yes. The reason why I didn't though is because I can only imagine how many people would cringe at the idea of looking at such a scene. Plus, while I am confident in the strength of the case, I'd rather be safe than sorry in this particular matter. Still, it does feel quite sturdy and I suppose the reason why people say (in other reviews) that it "feels cheap" is probably because it is so thin (which in my opinion is a good thing). If you're gonna spend this kind of money on a tablet AND get a bulky case for it, then why not just get a laptop at the same cost?Weight (5/5): One thing that this case has going for it, is that it doesn't add too much weight to the Fire HD. As far as I'm concerned, it's at just the right weight for me to hold up with one hand (or at the very least two hands) for a decent amount of time. So overall, weight is not an issue here and this is a good thing!Stand: (5/5): I've just recently had new hard wood floor installed in my house and so I was eager too test out the stand on different surfaces. I tried plastic surfaces, slick hard wood surfaces, suede surfaces, a memory foam mattress, and my own belly (just to name a few). I've yet to have an issue with the case sliding or toppling out of place. So I'm a bit confused at some of the reviews that state the stand "doesn't work." Maybe I got a lucky unit, but as far as I've gathered, it does it's job for me.Design (4/5): Alright, I like the way it looks, it fits very well and is very slim (as I stated earlier), however it does have one flaw (that may not pertain to some of you). I happen to have a cat, so sometimes stray hairs can hover or linger in the air here and there. What does this have to do with anything? Well when you open up the case, the interior is made of some sort of material that tends to "cling" to hairs. This would be alright except for the fact that when you close the case, this material touches the screen. So the next time you open it, you may be welcomed with a hair or a crumb, or something of that nature. Just a simple wiping would do, but it's just something to point out (as I haven't seen any other reviews make note of this). Aside from that, everything is fine. I love how when the cases closes it's magnetic and automatically turns the Fire HD off when closed and on when opened. The only other issue I should discuss is that (and others have already pointed this out) when plugged in, the case is designed so that the cord comes out on the bottom. So if you're using the stand feature, it can get kinda weird, however I've actually noticed that this doesn't necessarily put a damper on the sturdiness of the case, in fact sometimes it adds extra balance. Overall, the design is very convenient.Price: 3/5): This to me is the biggest flaw. I truly believe they could have faltered or lowered the price a bit for this product and maybe someday they will, however at the time of my purchase (and of this review) the asking price is a little steep. Do I think they could have sold this cheaper? Yes? Am I upset that I paid this much for it? No. After having spent some time with it, I am not enduring a feeling of "ugh...I wish I hadn't spent so much on this piece of crap." I'm pleased with the product and it does what it says and for that, it's worth the price, yet I wouldn't complain (and I'm sure neither would any of you) if they took it down a notch.Overall (22/25)I could have easily given this 5 stars instead of 4, however it's not necessarily a perfect product. Would I recommend it to Fire HD users though? Yes I would. The slimness and good fit alone are enough appeal for this product (as it sure beats some of the bulkier cases out there). I certainly hope that my review may help give you some insight, and if you have any questions, feel free to comment! Thank you for your time! :)

4Adjusting the stand slightly causes it to fall flat.
By Anna O
UPDATED November 25, 2012I decided to keep this case because I just don't think any other case could be as perfect as this one, save for the slip sliding away that it does on my tables and desks if I try to angle it only a little bit. The plastic/rubber strip on my case feels more like plastic than rubber so I'm thinking about cutting a very thin strip of that non-slip grip stuff in black and just using that when on a table top. The Fire fits so beautifully in this case and is so light and great looking that I can't bear to give it up. I upped the review to four stars because it's so elegant.------------------Original Review BelowThis is a very attractive case for the 8.9 Kindle Fire. When the Fire is inside it truly looks beautiful in there and there's an elegance to it when closed. It's very thin and lightweight and could have been perfect. I think it's overpriced for what it is but the attractiveness of it I suppose can justify the high price tag.Once I put the device in there, I was sold. But then I tried to use it as intended: as a stand. There is a rubberized strip that is supposed to provide traction in order to keep the case from collapsing from the tent shape when standing up. Since it is a gummy rubber, there should be some traction there to enable some leeway in the angle. Of course, you can't have an extreme angle because the weight of the device won't support that but there should be at least some flexibility in the viewing angle. The problem is, the rubber is not soft enough to provide traction. There is little to no traction on the one I received. Perhaps it is a defect but I just don't know. I put the case in triangle mode to stand on my desk and the screen was at too straight an angle because my eyes were above the device. I adjusted it slightly by opening the stand a little more and immediately the rubberized strip slipped across the desk and the case collapsed flat down. There is very little adjustability to the stand that I received. I will wait for more reviews to see if I just got a bum unit. I gave it three stars because the Kindle looks and fits beautifully but if we are truly stuck with essentially one viewing angle, then the case has much less functionality than I expected.

4Great Value
By al74
I got this to replace the VSX-820-K, which I liked but had few shortcomings, such as the requirement to use an analog video connection to the TV if you want to use the on screen menu. Got this at a non-Amazon retailer for well under the $399 MSRP.Looks and design: Classy black - got the spouse approval. However, like the 820-K, the cover of the front USB and video/audio ports is not connected to the receiver - it's a piece of plastic that you have to take out completely if you want to hook up a USB device or any source to the front connectors. I wish it had a permanent connection because I can completely see it getting lost. Reduced one star for this.Sound: Great. I used to have a 10-year old Denon 5.1 receiver which I loved. I think that sound quality of this Pioneer with movies is pretty much the same as my old Denon. The sound quality when playing plain music though is much much better than the Denon - just cleaner. I don't consider my self an audiophile, but I'm very happy with the sound (connected to a 5.1 Onkyo speaker set up).Video over HDMI looks good. My Wii is connected through analog RCA cable to the receiver and the video is up-converted (if that's the correct term) and comes through the single HDMI connection to the TV. Motorola Cable box and Media Center PC are also connected through HDMI and work great with no issues at all. No need to switch inputs in my TV anymore which simplifies life and the macro operation of my universal remote control.Setup is pretty usual for receivers, you will not understand many features and setup options unless you bother reading the instructions.Power: Seems to have to crank up the volume much higher than I used to with my Denon receiver and the sound is not even with that of my Home Theater PC (i.e., same volume level can hear the PC great but when I switch to cable I have to crank up the volume to get a decent sound - it may be a problem with the cable box outputing lower levels but I wish the receiver was capable dealing with that and make the volume level even with all sources).Overall for a little over $300, to get a 3D capable receiver from a reputable manufacturer such as Pioneer, with 7 channels, up-conversion and USB support is pretty amazing value. I am very happy with my purchase.

5A lot of receiver for not a lot of money
By K-Dogg
Purchased this from Amazon last week on sale for a great price! This receiver replaces a 9 year old Yamaha HTR-5440 5.1 Ch receiver. I think the sound quality is great, as was the Yamaha's and since my tv only has 2 hdmi inputs I am now able to connect my Tivo HD, Blu Ray Player, and Media Center PC to the receiver and I only have to run one hdmi cable up to the tv and I don't have to disconnect one component to connect another. I could've done this with an hdmi switch, but that is another piece of electronic's plugged in and drawing a little power all day, every day. The upscaling seems to do a great job with my wii that is connected with just a composite video cable. The iPhone/iPod interface is great, but if you want to see your cover art on your tv (not an issue for me as I usually don't have the tv on when listening to music on the iPhone/iPod) you will need to buy atleast the 1020k as that is the next step up and offers that feature. I have stereo speakers on my deck that are connected to Speakers B which have much better sound with this receiver than they did when they were connected the same way to the old Yamaha because this receiver allows me to add or subtract db's sent to those speakers (up to 15 db extra) and the Yamaha did not. This receiver works flawlessly with my Logitech Harmony remote. The one drawback for me was that this receiver does not have a 110 volt switched outlet on the back to turn off all power to my subwoofer and the old Yamaha did have this feature. I have checked all of the other Pioneer's and Yamaha's and they too do not come with this feature. I am hooking up a surge protector to a wall switched outlet and then plugging my sub into that to turn it off so it is not sucking any power while not in use.I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone that is on a tight budget and wants to get a lot for less out of pocket expense.

4AV Made Easy
By Jeff
The primary reason to buy this receiver was to reduce the number of audio and video connections behind the cabinet, as well as to be able to have easy, one or two button switching of both audio and video feeds. This does all the above. I have 2 HDMI sources in (cable HD-DVR and DVD player) and one composite in (Wii). I have one HDMI out to TV and one digital audio out to TV. That's it other than speaker wire. The best part is not having to switch the sound separate from the video feed. My better half never really wanted to learn all the necessary steps and now doesn't have to.The video up-convert feature doesn't really make much difference to me...you aren't going to get a picture that looks like a blu-ray disc, so don't expect such. But the 1080i and 720p that are broadcast come through (to my eyes) as good or slightly better than when sourced straight to the TV from the cable box. Wii, which outputs at 480p, doesn't look that much better either, but I love having sound through the tuner now instead of previously using the TV sound due to lack of connections on old receiver.I ran into an HDMI handshake issue wherein the picture would turn pink/purple upon changing a channel. Turns out it was the older cable DVR box. Switched to a newer one I had in another room and all good. All said, it does what it should, quickly change from watching TV/cable to DVD or Wii with only one button press, including sound.Pros:easy audio/video switching between sources4 HDMI in and 1 outgreat sound from all sourcesprice-under $300 for features that some charge $500 fornice audio setup program to optimize sound from each speaker (cheesy on-screen interface but it works)good rear connection layout...speaker connections are not crampedsmaller depth than previous receiver allows more cord room behind in cabinetUSB connection in frontincluded IPOD cable connects to front of receiverCons:switching sources could be a little faster (not a big deal - still less than 3 seconds)remote doesn't have power on-off for all devices with one button press, but it does control themremote buttons are somewhat small...number buttons require careful touch in particularbluetooth connection looks flimsy...I'm not paying extra for it

4Ships With All Current Kindle Fires...
By J. P.
Amazon already includes this cable with the Kindle Fire 7", the Kindle Fire HD 7" and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9". It's also great to purchase as a back up for the office or to take with you on the go. For the peace of mind knowing Amazon designed this to work specifically with Kindle Fire, it's worth the price. The quality of this cable compared to the previous white USB cable is much better. This cable has a thicker jacket on the outside so hopefully overtime it will hold up much better. Data transfer speeds between the computer and the device are relatively quick. This cable is actually a bit shorter than the white cable even though both are supposed to be 5 ft. in length. Measuring both cables, the black cable is approx 5 ft. and the white cable is approx 5 ft. 9in. Overall, even though it is shorter, this cable is starting off to be a much better improvement than the previous white version of this cable.

5Does What It Was Made To Do
By Libros Lover
The cable does speed up the charging of the Kindle Fire as opposed to the cables that are used with the regular Kindle. IMO, it shoud have been included with the purchase of the device, along with a plug/charger. Seems like everything is a la carte these days though.

5Extremely Handy!
By Johnny K. Young
Having recently received a Kindle Fire HD as a gift, I knew that hooking it up to my computer to charge it daily was not going to be convenient. That's when I found this little jewel along with the Kindle Fire AC charger. And they both work like a DREAM!. My desk stays uncluttered and the cord allows me to keep the Kindle plugged in while I read in bed or listen to music. It's well worth the price for the convenience it provides!

5Better design than S5300
By Y. Ning
This model is basically the same as S5300, with extra features:1. Can up-convert all video inputs to 1080P and output through HDMI. S5300 can't do this.2. Comes with a setup mic for Audessy to set up speakers automatically.S5300 doesn't have it.3. Front Speaker is smaller than those of S5300. I hooked them up on wall they look better. The front speakers of S5300 are much bigger and the rear speakers are much smaller.4. Subwoofer is taller and narrower than that of S5300. To me that is better.5. Total weight is like 10lb less than S5300.It is about $100 more than S5300. You can go with S5300 for cheaper if you don't mind those points above.

5Excellent HTIB. Great Sound for Apartments or Condos.
By S. Jhagroo
First off, I should say that I bought this from Newegg, since - at the time - Amazon had an estimated ship time of 1-2 months. I see they now have it back in stock for immediate delivery (at time of writing, anyway). Overall I will say that for the reduced price they have it at (less than $500) it's quite a bargain - and worth every penny.PACKAGING:I've included pictures of the packaging, since I assume that this doesn't really change much between either seller. Everything is packed and separated pretty solidly in thick styrofoam, the TX-SR680 receiver is located at the top, the subwoofer is at the bottom, and all speakers, accessories and cables are in between. There was some slight damage to the box in UPS shipping, but nothing out of the ordinary. The equipment inside was fairly pristine.SETUP & PERFORMANCE:The included wires with this system are 22-Gauge (for the front and center channels) and 24-Gauge (for the surrounds and rear surrounds) respectively. I replaced these with 14 Gauge wire purchased at Monoprice. That being said, I found it much simpler to use cheap banana plugs from Home Depot for connecting the wires to the receiver, since the binding posts in the back of the receiver are fairly closely placed and it's fairly tricky to thread the bare wire into the connections. The banana plugs allowed me to plug into the front, minimal fuss. I also used speaker pins for the spring clip connections in the speakers themselves, but that's a personal preference, since I like the neater look and I'm too lazy to strip wire :-).You should also know that I'm using this as a 5.1 system, I'll figure out what to do with the rear surrounds later I guess. The system worked like a charm out of the box, I have a DVD player and my PS3 connected via HDMI and use an HDMI out to the Plasma TV. Upconversion works flawlessly, picture and sound are excellent. My Blu-Ray of Serenity sounds and looks amazing through this system. Also popped in my Star Wars DVDs to see the upconverted 1080p signal at work - again, quite excellent and smooth picture. The HDMI connection carries both video and sound to the receiver from the PS3, so it's one less cable to deal with - 2 if you count the absence of a corresponding HDMI output to the TV :)I used the Audyssey setup afterwards, it matched my manual estimations fairly closely and I can definitely say I noticed an improvement in surround sound speaker volume after I did it. Sound is quite clear, system has good loudness to it and the bass sounds great in my apartment. For larger, hall-like rooms, however, the bass may not be sufficient. Movies - as stated - sound excellent.Another great thing is the on screen displays for setup functions and listening mode adjustments while the TV is switched to the HDMI input from the receiver.CONS:As awesome as this system is, I will point out a few things -1) The center channel is obviously made to lie horizontally, and yet the speaker is not shaped any differently than the front or surrounds i.e. the surface on the side is slightly curved and will rock unless you use some of the included rubber "feet". I had to pretty much guess where they should go on the underside of the speaker, which is fine since the system comes with like 20 of the things and I don't need them for any of the other speakers.2) BE VERY CAREFUL handling the subwoofer. The speaker fires down and there literally is NOTHING protecting the underside of the cabinet, which means your fingers can poke a hole quite easily through the cone if you don't watch out. Not quite sure what the Onkyo engineers were thinking when designing this, but it's a bit too easy to ruin your new purchase that way.3) iPod Dock works pretty nicely but the instructions on how to truly take advantage of it aren't very clear (press DISPLAY to get an On Screen Display of your Music and folders from iTunes). I haven't tried playing video on this yet but I did notice it detected Apple's "TV Shows" folder - perhaps I can use this instead of getting an Apple TV? Any feedback here will be welcome in the comments.4) This is my 2nd Onkyo unit so I'm used to this, but the remote can take some getting used to. There's a little bit of a lag when you navigate the on screen displays.SOME OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:I did notice some hiccups when playing sound from my TV. I don't have a set top box, signal is just basic cable coming from the wall and I have a Digital Out (Optical) running from the TV to the receiver. This could very well be the fault of the cable signal or TV since the PS3 audio comes in perfectly fine. We'll probably end up with an STB (or maybe Apple TV/Boxee) soon enough, so this should no longer be an issue. The receiver does run hot - but it hasn't been too bad for me. I have it in it's own section of my TV cabinet - with about 8 inches of space on top. The cabinet has an open back, with about 2 inches of space in front the wall. I was able to watch a movie with the front door closed with no issues but I haven't left it on for an extensive period of time while behind the closed door. Also, for those of you who are interested, I'm using the surrounds with the Atlantic Satellite SPSCUR47 2 Speaker Stands (Titanium). The speakers are attached via the included double sided tape to the base of the stand (no other practical way that I can see for attaching them) - otherwise they support these quite nicely and they look great!SUMMARY:This is a great system, I highly recommend!

4Well designed home theater package for the price
By Warren W. Smith
I just received this system last week and spent the better part of the Labor Day weekend setting it all up along with my new projector and screen. I paired the speakers with the Sanus speaker mount system to hang the front, rear and center channels. Another reviewer has already detailed the differences between this model and the next cheaper model below so I won't go into that. I would say I think it is work the extra $100 or so to get this one over the S5300 and am glad I went that route for the extra features. It did not take long to unpack and set up into my entertainment center. I had already pre-wired my home theater room with 14/2 speaker wire to where all the speakers would go so set up went quickly. The auto setup for the speakers was a snap and the system sounds great. I have a satellite receiver (very old model with old connections only available) connected via composite cables and a PS3 for BD DVD/gaming via HDMI. The output is connected to an Optoma HD20 projector via the HDMI out. Once I read the instructions more clearly on how to configure the one input for the composite cables I quickly cleared a problem I had with audio but no video output when using the satellite receiver for TV. The picture looks great with the upconvert and now I wonder if I want to upgrade to HD TV receiver in the near future to maximize the potential of the system. With the BD DVD the picture is also fantastic and the sound is perfect, making for a great home theater experience. I do not as of yet own any Blue Ray DVDs, but have tried a few regular DVDs which look great. The iPOD doc is a handy bonus which also works and sounds great.I had pre-wired the room some time back and only wired it for 5.1 so I am currently not using 2 of the speakers. I may add them in sometime in the future when I get more time and find a way to do it without making too much of a mess of the room. As it is, with just the 5.1, the sound is great and I have no complaints. I would have given it 5 stars, but as another reviewer mentioned, the system does get hot. I have not had any problems with the system shutting down however, and just notice when I put my hand in there to check it out of curiosity. I hope that it doesn't become a problem in the future, but I also do not have much experience with these types of systems as this is my first home theater receiver/sound system. I still have not played with all of the many, many features available by the system as I must admit I do not even understand them all. But out of the box with very little adjustments on my part it works great and easily met all of my expectations. I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to others.

5Great for 60D + Magic Lantern
By Gadget_Lover
The speed of this card may be overkill for standard shooting/filming. However, I use Magic Lantern on my 60D, which is a firmware modification that runs off of the SD card. I noticed that my Transcend 32 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS32GSDHC10E had a hard time keeping up with some of the functions of the additional software. I decided to give the faster card a try, and the functions (such as magic zoom and focus peaking) work much better now.Of course, pulling pictures and video off the card is also quicker than with the Transcend. Although both cards are "Class 10," the SanDisk is 50% faster than the Transcend.

5Latest 45MB/s SDHC - Great Card!
By J. Anderson
I just received the card today, so not a lot of time logged... But it is smokin' fast! I had some issues recording 1080/30fps on my D5100 with previous PNY Professional card. Several tests with HD video and consecutive still frame bursts never even hiccuped! I'm 99.4% sure this is going to cure all of the past woes. (The PNY is now relegated to my sweet new Samsung TL500. No HD video on it, so No worries!)What I wanted to point out to those looking is that this IS the latest 45MB/s SDHC Extreme 16GB card. AND it's at the same or better price as others selling the previous models!Maybe I'm the only one that's confused about the different versions of the SanDisk SDHC cards. But I searched and searched trying to make sure I was getting the latest card instead of overpaying for old stock. I even contacted SanDisk, and their customer support didn't even know that the Extreme is now 45MB/s! They actually told me that I would have to buy the (now outdated and overpriced) SDSDXP1-016G to get 45MB/s. I researched this for a couple of evenings, and still knew enough to explain to SanDisk that the SDSDXPA-016G is the new version of what they told me to buy, and it's now 95MB/s for the same price! So here's the breakdown of what I found as of 3/22/12:Lower price Extreme SDHC:SDSDRX3-016G - 30MB/s - OLDSDSDX-016G - 45MB/s - CURRENT (Apparently Brand New)Higher price Extreme Pro SDHC:SDSDXP1-016G - 45MB/s - OLDSDSDXPA-016G - 95MB/s - CURRENTThe cards are all about the same price if you buy the same classification and GB size. (A 16GB Extreme is going to be twenty-five to thirty bucks regardless if it's 20MB/s, 30MB/s, or 45MB/s.)I don't know if you really need this Extreme card vs. Ultra or Extreme Pro. You can determine that... But don't Overpay for the same performance! Be sure you Get the Latest Version of whichever you choose.

5Extreme SDHC 32
By Pacerman
I recently purchased a GoPro HD Hero2 which shoots both video/still pictures and have been very satisfied with the performance of this card. Without going in to what a GoPro can do and why I matched it with this card I will simply say that it handles approx. 5 hours of video time in various settings and easily handles the rapid burst photo setting of 10 photos/sec...fast!

4A great Home Theater system that will be hard to top at this price
By C. Johnson
I purchased this HTIB system to replace my Sony STR-Se501 that I have had for over 10 years. That system has served me well, but recently the center speaker would occasionally cut out requiring me to tap on the top of the receiver to get the sound to come back. When working that system sounded pretty good, but I knew I had a problem when I played God of War 3 and I had a very hard time hearing the speech of some characters, even when my center speaker was working. I was all set to get the HT-S5200, but decided to hold off when I saw the HT-S5300 was coming out with better features. After getting the system setting up, I am glad I was patient. The HT-S5300 is an excellent system for the price, even a much better deal when purchasing from online sites that give you a pretty hefty discount as opposed to the regular retail price. Everything comes packed neatly and securely in one large box and the basic instructions of hooking everything up is explained clearly on a full color poster which should have you up and running in no time. Even the speaker wires and inputs on the back of the receiver or color coded adding more the simplicity. In addition to looking great with a black wood finish, the speakers are larger than I expected them to be; especially the front speakers and subwoofer, the fronts are so big in fact, instead of standing them up in a cubby hole of my entertainment center were I had my old speakers, I had to lay them down to get them to fit. I may look into getting some wall mounts for them, but my living room is an open area that isn't really set up for wall mounting. I have only hooked up speakers required for a 5.1 system because I really don't have the type of floor plan to accommodate the 2 extra included speakers without it looking tacky so I left the two extra speakers in their original packaging for future use. You may be wondering why I didn't op for the HT-S3300 instead of the 7.1 HT-S5300. The reason is that coming from an HTIB that has an active subwoofer (i.e. has its own power source, as opposed to a subwoofer that is powered by the receiver itself), I didn't want to "downgrade" to a passive sub. This is the main reason I opted for the HT-S5300 and had the HT-S3300 had an active sub as well, I more than likely would have gotten that instead. After getting every thing setup, I admit I was unimpressed with the sound it put out. The bass from the massive subwoofer seemed weak and the other speakers did not seem to be as good as I expected, however after fiddling around with the sound settings I got them to sound excellent. The speakers required tweaking of their output level settings and I had to adjust the bass and treble settings to get the clear put powerful sound I was looking for. After getting my settings correct, I popped in God of War 3, and the sound is 100% better I can clearly hear characters speech and I now I want to play ALL my games again to hear them as they were supposed to sound. I have also tried my DVD's and my one Blu-Ray movie, The Dark Knight, and it sounds much better than my old receiver did. The subwoofer is quite powerful, and if you put your hand anywhere near the opening, you will feel strong puffs of air coming out. Sometimes the bass is a little overwhelming, but you can adjust the output on the back of it as well as through the receiver's menu.An excellent feature is that you can adjust receiver settings directly on your TV screen without having to look at the small display on the receiver itself. This makes it easy to adjust settings from your couch using the remote using the well designed menu screen. Keep in mind this only works if you have HDMI on your TV, if you don't have HDMI, then unfortunately this feature won't work.Speaking of HDMI, unlike many receivers in this price range, the HDMI carries both video and sound meaning no need for an optical or coaxial cable to get sound. This is another reason I waited to get a new receiver. The fact that this receiver carries both Video and sound also makes hooking up components much easier. I had been using a digital selector to get sound from my various devices, but after setting up my devices I discovered I didn't even need the selector anymore so it has been removed completely from my setup. My older components like my DVD and VCR/DVD Recorder don't have HDMI, but no worries; the receiver accommodates those devices as well using traditional connections. I applaud Onkyo tremendously for deciding to allow both audio and video over the HDMI connections on their newer receivers; it is a huge plus. Finally, the HDMI connections will support the new 1.4 versions, but works just fine with 1.3 cables as well. So don't think you have to get the new version of cables to get your stuff to work properly because you don't.One small complaint I have is that sometimes the settings seem to not save or undo themselves and other times I cannot adjust the speaker level settings because they sometime get disabled for some reason. The full manual does not do a very good job in explaining why this happens, so that leaves me to trying different things to get it to work. But when I do get it working, I am very pleased with the sound. Also I ran into a situation last night in which I wasn't getting any sound from my PS3 to the receiver, but simply turning off the receiver and turning it back on resolved that hiccup. One final thing I must mention is that this receiver is in the Harmony's database of devices so it works with my Harmony One really well. However keep in mind; instead of using "HT-S5300" as the model number you should use "TX-SR508". I believe that is the actual model number of the receiver (or very similar receiver) if you were to buy it separately. There is a model number on the receiver itself, but that model number listed is not in the database which I why I used "TX-SR508" instead. I haven't quite completed getting my button configurations done, but once I am finished, I suspect I won't need the included Onko remote anymore.I debated for a while before deciding on this receiver and after getting the settings how I wanted, I could not be happier with my purchase. If I had some complaints then it has to do with the manual, even though its neatly laid out, it does not does a very good job in explaining why certain things happen (i.e. unable to configure various speaker settings at times), but the system itself is excellent for the price with good speakers and a powerful subwoofer that should satisfy most of us. You can always opt for better speakers, but for most, I suspect the included speakers would be enough for a while. If you are looking for a great Home Theater system that won't break the bank, you can't go wrong with the HT-S5300 which can function as 7.1 system and also a 5.1 system if you don't have the room setup for a 7.1 one. There are also option inputs for Front High speakers as well as a "Zone 2" setup that allows you to send sound to speakers in another room. If you don't really care about the active subwoofer, then take a look at the HT-S3300, a 5.1 system with much of the same features as this, but with one less HDMI port and a passive subwoofer and a little less power.

3Good Sound, But Several Issues
By mrcatman
This product has great promise - if they release fixes to the issues below. We even got a replacement receiver and subwoofer to see if we had a lemon, but (with the exception of one issue), all the problems were there in the replacements as well. We will be returning this product. Here's why...1) S5300 doesn't "up-convert" composite/component formats to HDMII didn't learn this until I bought it (my fault), but I wanted to pass it along so you don't make the same mistake. I confirmed this in their manual and with a call to Onkyo. If you connect any non-HDMI device to the Onkyo, it will only send it out the same way. It will not up-convert it to HDMI.If you connect a composite device (say, a kid's Leap Frog video game), you need a composite cable out from the Onkyo to your TV. Same for component. So if you use all 3 input types, that means you need 3 outputs from the Onkyo to the TV - HDMI, composite, and component. This also means you have to change the TV input alongside changing the Onkyo input. This might be par for the course for some, but the whole point of buying a new central HTIB device like this was to act as a hub for all inputs (regardless of type) and have a single HDMI out to the TV, so you never have to touch TV inputs again. Supposedly the next step up in receivers (6000 series) has up-converting.Most of our devices are HDMI, and I'm sure eventually everything will be. But if you even have a single non-HDMI device... well, I'd rather have an up-converting receiver to avoid the unnecessary extra steps.2) HDMI drop outI saw HDMI signal cut out a couple times on the initial receiver unit, but it was brief. I see it more pronounced on the replacement receiver. I looked online and found others have experienced this, where HDMI signal will periodically cut out. For some people, it was very frequent (every 3 minutes). Sometimes just sound, sometimes just picture, sometimes both leaving you with a blue screen or "no signal" message. Personally, I only saw brief blank screens or missing audio for 10 seconds or so. It's very unpredictable.I was reading some posts of people that troubleshooted it to the receiver overheating. After about 2-3 hours of running they'd see problems start up, even with 4 inches of clearance above the receiver (which is how much clearance I had). For those people experiencing it really bad, they could make the issue go away by having a 140mm PC fan blow as an "exhaust" fan on top of it for 2 minutes (or even blowing a fan directly on the front of it). I don't think we should need an external 3rd party fan to keep this receiver working properly.I found the initial receiver was doing dropouts after about 2 hours of being on, but the replacement receiver can do it within a few moments of being turned on. So it doesn't seem like an overheating thing. Long forum thread on the various issues: google "avs 1235651" to get the thread.3) Picture suddenly washed out in a single colorYou can be watching cable/DVR source in the DVR HDMI input and suddenly the picture is washed out in blue, green or purple. It happens on both the initial and replacement receivers, and with different DVR boxes - and it is not subtle. The only thing that reliably gets rid of the washed out color is to change the input source to something else and back. Then the picture is fine. I can't reproduce this problem on demand, but we've seen it on both receivers about a total of 5 times in the span of two weeks. I called Onkyo, and they had no solution. I've never seen this happen with the DVR plugged directly into the TV. We're currently about to test other devices (Blu-Ray, HDMI video camera, etc.) and using different HDMI ports to see if we can reproduce it in any combination.4) HDMI motherboard wigglesThis happens with both the initial and replacement receivers. When you plug an HDMI cable into the back and gently move it up/down, you can view (through the ventilation holes on top of the S5300) the internal motherboard for the HDMI ports wiggling a decent amount. It's not firmly attached. This can't be a good thing. In my call to Onkyo, the tech said it might be a bad batch of poorly constructed units. Yummy.5) Speaker switching/invertingOnkyo posted a press release admitting to another issue; something about speaker switching during PCM playback. I haven't experienced that one, because I haven't played a Blu-Ray yet. I don't believe there is a fix for it yet. It looks like its specific to the surround (back) speakers we're not using right now, but since we might want to use them some day, it's kind of lame that it's there. Google "onkyo press releases 185" to get their post.6) Audyssey / Sound PhasingI've noticed (on both receivers) that music lacks fullness and energy. I poked around online and found others are reporting that this particular receiver has a deficiency in the 800-1,000 frequency range, which causes this issue. If you turn on the audyssey (which we'll be using all the time, since we have kids and have to listen at low levels at night), it ignores your manual speaker calibrations (as intended) to do it's own adjustments. But audyssey on this unit causes phasing, where lower frequencies start drowning out similar (and polar) frequencies before they even get to your ear. The result is that this receiver's audyssey feature often drowns out the 1k-2k frequencies making it hard to hear dialogue articulation of syllables like "ss st puh kuh." You end up with the bass distorted and unnatural sound. I have noticed this, but to be fair, it isn't horrible. Just mildly annoying. There was other strange stuff I noticed with the audyssey when it curtails the sudden loud stuff. It's pretty noticeable. Sometimes it feels like it's struggling to keep up with the processing rather than doing it in real time.7) Subwoofer buzzThis happens with both the initial and replacement subwoofer. The subwoofer produces a buzz or humming sound, even when it was not in use, has the gain turned all the way down and has no input cable connected. Simply plugging it into an A/C outlet to get power was enough to create the buzz. When you put your ear to it, the buzz comes from the bottom. We just had our electrical upgraded/redone within the last year and our previous powered Onkyo subwoofer does not make the sound. I can plug the subwoofer into any outlet in the house and reproduce the issue (so it rules out interference from nearby electronics or problematic power strips, etc.).8) Subwoofer on/offI saw this issue all the time on our initial subwoofer, and almost not at all on the replacement subwoofer. So I'm guessing it was a defective initial sub unit. But figured it was worth mentioning in case you got a lemon sub. I can set the receiver volume at (say) 30, and the sub is off, which is suppose to mean that the sub has no input signal to play. I can increase volume to 35, and the sub turns on. I can then decrease the volume back to 30 or even lower (now that I have forced the sub to turn on)... and can hear the sub producing bass sounds. So clearly there was signal being sent to the sub at that 30 volume, but the sub was (initially) ignoring it and staying off. I called Onkyo, and they said it was a defective subwoofer. And by the way, Onkyo also confirmed there is no receiver setting to force the sub to stay on regardless of signal coming in. You know, like, "If the receiver is on, keep the sub on" type thing. There is only the "double bass" setting (which I already had on) and increasing signal sent to the sub (which I believe gets defeated when you turn on audyssey).9) Clicking iPod DockOthers have reported clicking sound when an iPod/iPhone is seated in the cradle (and during operation). I didn't have this issue, but we have a very old iPod Nano, so it might be an issue only for newer iPods or the iPhone. Just be aware of the possibility.10) Onscreen volume/muting displayWhen you adjust the volume up or down, a thin horizontal bar appears on your TV screen for a moment. If you mute the Onkyo, this bar sticks on the TV screen with a blinking muted text. It is very long/wide, and unfortunately, happens to cover up our Time Warner guide and interface in a bad location. Turns out this receiver cannot disable that display/overlay, so you're stuck with it. This is an incredibly minor point as most people likely would prefer it on. But I wanted to point it out to those of you who prefer it off (we don't mind the overlay when you are fiddling with the "settings," for example, but the volume/muting get used a great deal, so we find it annoying).ConclusionThis is a really promising product, especially in the price range. We tried some soundbar+sub products (Yamaha YHT-S400, Sony HT-CT150) as well as several other HTIB receiver/speaker products (Samsung HT-C6500, LG LHB335, LG LHB535, Sony E570), and the Onkyo S5300 had the best sound and sound options (sound fields), hands down. But the reality is, if the Onkyo can't perform the basic functions flawlessly (i.e., watching without video/sound dropouts or washed out video, etc.), then it isn't worth it. We hope this helps you make an informed decision.

5Solid and excellent new 2010 product from Onkyo
By GatorFan84
I ordered the system on Thursday morning and got it delivered on Friday by 1pm thru Prime members 2Day shipping. Definitely amazed by the delivery service earlier than expected date.Easy to setup the system in my home which took less than an hour to set it up. Comes with very easy to understand setup guide.Watched The Dark Night on it and I must say the I was surprised (even sounds great with onkyo's crappy speaker cables) with the surround sound quality. Subwoofer is a monster. I was doing research on Onkyo's HTIB systems for last few months and I must say that this system serves all my purpose blu ray, digital video to upscaled HDMI videos.Cons: None so far for this product. This comes with iPod dock so that's also a plus for my need. The system comes with a crappy speaker cables same as Onkyo's other HTIBs. You must buy a good quality speaker cables 14 or 16Gauge depends upon your room setup.Onkyo's HTIB for this price range STANDS OUT among any other HTIB. It includes 4 HDMI input with video and audio over HDMI, and a new HDMI 1.4 3D video, audio channel return support.

4Good drive for the money
By Derek Kingston
When purchasing flash drives I try to read the reviews and understand what I'm getting into. Unfortunately, this one had no reviews, but was such a good deal, I decided to purchase it anyway. I have read about fake usb flash devices being sold (mainly on ebay but also on amazon), so I was a bit wary. Happily, this device is as advertised: I ran a full f3 test (this is the linux equivalent to h2testw) to determine the true capacity - it really is 64 GB and operates at USB 2.0 speeds (ubuntu disk utility benchmark reports average read rate of 35.8 MB/s and write rate of 3.0 MB/s).Pros:- good price (approx $1 per GB)- full 64 GB of storage in very small package- trusted SanDisk name- validates as true 64GB USB 2.0 device- small metal rod on back for connecting to key chain- BoBoTech shipped quicklyCons:- USB 2 is a bit slow (but USB3 devices are WAY more expensive)- plastic shell seems a bit flimsy (this hasn't been a problem on my smaller 16GB Cruzer)- 1/8" wider on each side from the connector - very tight fit next to power connector on my laptopOverall, I would recommend this drive if you are looking for a large capacity thumb drive and can live with USB 2 transfer speeds.

4Big but Slow
By L Jason Christiansen
I love having this flash drive with me everywhere I go. I can haul around massive amounts of data in my pocket for use or viewing/listening anywhere. HOWEVER, it's the slowest flash drive I've ever used. My most recent previous one was a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4 GB and it was fast. This flash drive, however, is slower than all other flash drives and external drives I've used. Soooo.... I'd recommend it to anyone who needs to carry around a lot of data but isn't worried about lightning-speed data transfers.

2SanDisk Cruzer 64GB VS Transcend 64 GB
By Douglas Doon
I am a SanDisk fan. I have always used there products and have been happy with the speed and reliability that they offered. Recently I upgraded from the SanDisk Cruzer 16GB to the 32GB. Right away I noticed it was taking longer to move files. Also from time to time it would just stop during transfer. I left it on all night thinking it would finish and it never did. I Decommissioned that one and bought another a few months later locally this time. I figured I must have gotten a hold of a bad one. The new 32GB Cruzer did the same thing. I just worked around the issues and continued using it. I figured the 32gb model must be flawed in some way. Still being a fan of SanDisk Cruzers I just recently upgraded to the 64GB model. So far it hasn't stopped during transfer but it still seemed to be taking to long. I decided to try a little test. I Purchased a Transcend 64GB thumb drive. I made a folder on my desktop and put 70 files of varying sizes equaling 4.03GB. I copied the folder to my SanDisk and timed it then I did the same with the Transcend. Here are the results:SanDisk Cruzer 64GB USB Flash Drive SDCZ36-064G-B35 transferring 70 files equaling 4.03GB it took 18.34 minutesTranscend 64 GB JetFlash 500 Retractable USB Flash Drive - TS64GJF500E transferring the same took 13.43 minutesI can't speak for the long term reliability of the Transcend thumb because this is the first I've owned. What I do know is that it has a good solid feel, it's cheaper then the SanDisk of the same size, and it's considerably faster. I'm going to continue testing this drive and if it works out and I grow to trust it I will post again and let everyone know. For now I'm going to lean toward Transcend.** Update as of 01/30/2013 **I continued using both the Sandisk 64 and the Transcend 64 daily at work. The Sandisk is still significantly slower and occasionally stops responding during transfer. Unfortunately there is no safe way to remove it because technically it's still in use and will not respond to safe ejection procedures both in Windows and Linux. I just do a system shutdown hopping the OS will safely close the open files. I then remove it, restart the machine and try again. This may sound a bit extreme but I do it for a reason. One time it stopped responding on a 3 gig transfer so I let it sit for an hour. When I came back it was still unresponsive so I removed it and took it to another machine I was updating. When I inserted it the new machine I was asked if I wanted to format the Sandisk. I lost everything. Fortunately I had the same data on the transcend so it was just an inconvenience. If however I had been relying solely on the SanDisk it would have been a very long night. The Transcend 64 still continues to surprise me with it's reliability and speed. It is used at work in the daily grind and shows no signs of instability or speed loss.Seven month tested daily, head to head- Transcend 64 GB JetFlash 500 Retractable USB Flash Drive TS64GJF500E VS SanDisk Cruzer 64GB USB Flash Drive SDCZ36-064G-B35. And!... It's Transcend for the Win! Sorry SanDisk, this was a complete miss match. With all your resources, funding, and experience You should have stomped transcend into the ground. You need to get your staff into one room and discuss who dropped the ball and what your going to do about it. Your pro's, this should never have happened and because it did you've introduced doubt into the minds of consumers you had won over years ago. This leaves me wondering was it a shameful loss for SanDisk or is there a new player in the game. In my opinion Transcend just stepped out of the background and into the foreground. They will be given serious consideration during my purchases in the future.
