I have only had the receiver for a few days, but I really like it. I have been using Sony ES receivers for some time and have never been disappointed. The receiver is easy to set up and to use. I have great audio and video quality at a good price. The only thing that is missing from the receiver is Ethernet for streaming media from a PC, but this is available as an accessory, at extra cost, of course. As I have several other devices that allow streaming, this is really not a big loss.The only limitation I have run across so far is the length of the cable on the microphone used to calibrate the speakers; it does not quite reach to my listening position. If this is the only flaw in the product, I'm very happy with this purchase.The manual is typical Sony; a good reference document if you know what you are doing. Newbies to audio / video system set up may struggle a bit.

This unit replaces a 10 year old Sony ES that was great for CDs, DVDs and HDTV with optical connections, but couldn't do BluRay sound and the optical stereo feed (uncompressed linear PCM audio) was garbled.It worked out of the box, the GUI is very cool, automated speaker setup rocks, sound field settings are really good and there are plenty of options. However, I couldn't get BluRay sound. Tried different cables, checked my settings and concluded that it must be a handshake issue although it shouldn't happen with a Sony receiver connected to a Sony BDP-BX2 BluRay. Finally, I checked Sony's support page for BluRay firmware updates finding a Hot Topic called "The audio receiver will not play the proper audio format when playing a Blu-ray Disc(tm) title." After updating my firmware, changing the audio settings -- "Direct" is the option that you want for BluRay sound, which is so unintuitive -- and updating audio settings on the surround receiver, I finally have BluRay sound shooting every which way with motorcycles driving through the middle of the room.I'm giving this unit 5 stars because it does a great job for the money.
